I have been working on collecting images for a creamy dreamy post (stay tuned) which prompted me to do my own version of the look. Inspired by Abbey Lee's vanilla hair and her tonal ensemble as well as the grecian detail in the picture her's, I threw on my blonde fur stole and shot away. The light tones in the stole and the movement in the skirt make a nice bohemian platform for some major double cuff jewel action. Through the course of shooting, someone kept creeping into the bottom of the pictures, so we sat little Borris down on his own creamy sheep skin and gave him his big camera moment. Bless him.

For the holiday Mr. Mounser and I traveled to San Francisco to be with our lovely family. We had such a wonderful time, and were sure glad to lounge in the sun seaside rather than trudge through New York snowside....These pictures are from a teeny town called Pescadero. I loved all of the textures and colors of the natural landscape, and it was a nice surprise to see the geography hold such rich color during the winter months. Pescadero really is the cutest little town. The main drag is littered with amazing antique, thrift and handmade furniture stores, and their General Store makes cinnamon rolls that are to die for. From one of the vintage shops I scored the perfect 1950's creamy wool cardigan with gold buttons on the front placket and sleeves for $4.50 as well as a YSL necklace for $8.00!

This jacket gives me the warm fuzzies...believe it or not, this bohemian number is from Forever 21. Get it here. This curly-q coat falls right in line with a lot of my inspiration for the season - soft, cozy, furry textured knits that can be worn with ease. Its such an effortless layering piece and fresh alternative to a cardigan. I also love the luggage brown hue of this piece and paired with Margiela clogs the over all look has a distinctly vintage feel.

This dress was such an amazing vintage find. Cozy and comfy knit, its the perfect way to look feminine while fighting the windy wispy elements of winter. The shape is great as its seamed down the bodice so that the skirt falls perfectly around the legs with a generous amount of volume. I chose to accessorize with lots and lots of bohemian jewelry and a vintage wide brimmed hat and topped the look off with a camel trench to continue a 70's feeling. I am so into 70's bohemia right now, and love anything with lengthy volume and movement.

No matter how hard I try, I cannot stay away from color. Give me any print drenched in color and automatically, as if in a trance, I am drawn to it. The moment I saw this Thakoon dress on Style.com, I knew I had to have it - it was life or death. I love this dress also because of its versatility in that it can be worn as a dress or as a tunic. I have been looking for the perfect baja hoodie for ages, and I finally found one that I fell in love with, at the Fort Green Flea Market in Brooklyn. Its great because it has just the right amount of color without being too bold (in my opinion). It also works worn back to denim chambray or powder blue flannel as worn here. Kind of ridiculously warm and perfect for the upcoming chill, this surfer's staple will for sure be one of mine this winter.

Rage against the Minimalism

The warm fuzzies for minimalism, I have not. I yearn for the days when I could flip through a fashion magazine chalk full of eclectic print mixing, vibrant color shading, and accessories to starve for...I find myself a bit lost and uninspired this fall season, even pulling images for this blog has been a bit of a struggle (obviously). I love rock and roll glamour, but what is out seems tired, and on the opposite end of the spectrum literal 1950's dressing is not the road to salvation either.

I hoped that the tide would turn for spring, but many designers are still clinging onto the groundwork laid for fall. I can only hope that Paris leads us out of the abyss. That being said, I am dedicating this post to a few of the few things that have actually made me excited so far this fashion season..

Rodarte

Damnit, I love these girls. They always always offer a collection full of whimsical surprises, and this season, didn't disappoint. Who else can you count to merge a wood panel print with a porcelain print and pull if off in a way that one actually covets wearing it. I mean these girls are evolving. They had tons of wearable offerings that actually feel fresh and exude the same creativity as their more fanciful pieces. And God bless that Nicholas Kirkwood, boasting another great round of intricate and architectural shoes to go back to this already amazing collection.

Christopher Kane

Okay, so I am so over the lady look, but ladies who lunch on acid??? Now that is a different story. I adore this collection and its embrace of yummy neon color. Neon was a big trend in my spring collection, so I was thrilled to see it emerge in the ready to wear sector. Christopher Kane is another one who stakes major claim in designing interesting and detailed pieces while maintaining a wearability level that sends every party girl straight into his arms. I cant wait to see what he does for Versus this season.

Taylor Tomasi Hill, Style Director, Marie Claire

You all know her and love her. She is a constant source of inspiration for me with regards to personal style. She is truly a modern fashion icon in that her look isn't borrowed from anyone in the past, it is purely creative, original and absolutely her own. She isn't scared of color and has perfected the art of layering. She mixes different genres from preppy to avant garde to baroque with an effortless sensibility and her accessories are always unexpected and out of the ordinary. The clothing combinations she masterminds are always surprising and chic, and I look forward to scouring the fashion blogs to see what she is doing next.

This Berlin based artist served as constant inspiration for me as I was designing my SS 11 collection. I am absolutely obsessed with the color palette, and liquid motion his artwork takes. It literally oozes cool and warm at the same time like a breeze on a hot summer day. Yum yum.

Assad Mounser for Cushnie et Ochs SS 11 Runway Show

This season I had the privilege of doing the jewelry for the super chic girls from Cushnie et Ochs. Each model floated down the runway looking both beautiful and haunting like a phoenix rising from the ashes doing mussed up hair and dewy makeup. With an overall aesthetic that was part ethereal, and part "don't mess with me" dark edge, the result was a juxtaposition of silhouettes with both pretty draping and asymmetrical laser pleating. The details were the essence of cool with fabrications like "bitten gingham" whose gauzy texture had little nibble spots missing, and "black paper leather" with crisp architectural seaming. And those towering platforms with weaponry protruding from the buttery leather were a force to be reckoned and designed by none other than Alejandro Ingelmo. For the jewelry I created deconstructed necklaces and gloves that looked as if they were unraveling from the models necks with each step they took. The silhouettes with traditionally pure pearls were a nice contrast to the black lava rock pieces which had the look of pearls that had been burned.

Light and airy pieces are a must for summer. This dress by Sinha Stanic is just that, tissue like and flowy, it feels just right. Although difficult to tell from the pictures, this dress has very interesting detailing, it has a big over sized pocket in the front, a drapey neckline, great back pleating, and an amazing rusty red painterly print. One of my favorite vintage stores is in San Francisco. I always find great pieces there that I keep in my wardrobe season after season - this mini dress is one of those pieces. Tie dye seems to be a reoccurring trend for spring, so I always find myself wearing this tunic especially when the temperature rises. I love the richness of the green, here and paired with tribal accessories it makes for a modern take on the ethnic trend as well.

I like to call this my technicolor coat, for all of its bright colors and patches. It was thrifted, and to me the look is part tribal, part hippie, and part kindergarten teacher? This Thakoon top is by far my most favorite purchase of the summer. I loved this silhouette so much that I also bought it in solid black. Both tops have been my go to's for their airy cut outs, and intriguing construction. I am also pretty obsessed with the print and color palette and it jives nicely with the youthful suffer trend that was predominant this season. Stay tuned for shots of the black, I'm sure you'll see both tops more than once!

I was really intrigued by a recent style.com article featuring the upcoming long skirt trend for fall. Part 70's, part gypsy, and part prairie, long skirts are a great way to layer up with comfort once the temperature starts to drop again. Another thing I noticed was the way designers merchandised this future staple with contrasting mensy details - blazers, grandpa cardigans and vests. This trend is out in the streets as well, and a few months ago while working on a project for Japan I even shot a fall look focused around the long skirt silhouette. Below are several inspirational images to file away until the colder months, from style.com, jakandjill.com, and thesartorialist.blogspot.com. Also, maybe as you purchase your maxi dresses for summer think about investing in fabrics that can easily transition into autumn once layered with woolly stockings, chunky sweaters, and cozy scarves.

There never was a collection more wildly photographed than this spring season's kitty crystal encrusted Miu Miu offering. With additions mixed in including Matisse nude scribblings, doll dress pleating, 1960's mini silhouetting, and 1980's cut outs its easy to see how the variety of design details lent itself to so many different kinds of editorial stories. The multiple incarnations of light hearted whimsy captured the daydreamer in me and made me think fondly of the simpler days of my youth. Its interesting how the sweetest things can cause so many fireworks!

Jeans EVER. Consistent with this summer's sportswear trend as seen most predominantly at Alexander Wang, this pair of jeans is casual, comfortable and cool. Purchased at Zara (for $59.00 by the way!) I was drawn to the light wash, sweat pant detailing and front pleating. I literally find myself wanting to wear them everyday, meanwhile, asking the question "Am destined to a perilous future of watching soap operas and eating bon bons?" Nah!
